BUSH, Alvin Charles, a Representative from Lycoming County; born in Philipsburg, Centre County, Pa., January 22, 1924; graduated, Williamsport High School, 1941; B.S., University of North Carolina; attended, Northwestern University Midshipman’s School; lieutenant, "U.S.S. LST-25," United States Navy (1943-1946, World War II); farmer; president, Alvin Bush Motors; member, Lycoming County Young Republicans; elected as a Republican for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1961 term and served 4 more consecutive terms; elected, Majority Caucus Secretary (1967-1968); elected, Minority Caucus Secretary (1969-1970); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1970); director, Pennsylvania Legislative Reference Bureau (1972-1973); staff administrator, Pennsylvania Senate Republican Caucus (1976-1980); executive assistant, Senate President pro tempore (1980-1984); reelected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1985 term and served 4 consecutive terms thereafter; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1994); appointed, Independent Regulatory Review Commission (1997-2009); died, February 8, 2017 in Montoursville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania; interred, Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
