DEWEY, Philip Hastings, a Representative from Tioga County; born, November 12, 1868 in Richmond Township, Tioga County, Pa.; educated in the public schools of Mansfield and Gaines; engaged in the business of lumber (25 years); elected, commissioner, Tioga County; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1921 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1923 term; appointed, Master of the State Grange (1924-1928); gubernatorial appointee, manager, State’s Workmen’s Insurance Fund (1927-1931); elected, State Secretary of Internal Affairs, Pennsylvania Department of State (1931-1934); died, August 9, 1939 in Blossburg, Tioga County, Pennsylvania; interred Knowlton Cemetery, Elk Run, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
