DERBY, Fred K., a Representative from Lackawanna County; born in Plymouth, Luzerne County, Pa., February 26, 1882; graduated, Normal Hill School, Los Angeles, Ca.; served, 7th Infantry, California National Guard; surveyor, Arizona and California; mining foreman, Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Company (15 years); appointed, director of public safety, Scranton (1914-1917); jail warden, Lackawanna County (1924); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to the 1925 and 1927 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House in the 1928 General election; co-owner, Scranton Minors, New York-Pennsylvania League baseball team; appointed, city mining engineer, Scranton (1927-1928); elected, mayor, Scranton (1930-1933); director of public safety, Lackawanna County; died, January 18, 1945 in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania; interred, Dunmore Cemetery, Dunmore, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
