BALDWIN, Richard Jacobs, a Representative from Delaware County; born in East Bradford Township, Chester County, Pa., March 1, 1853; attended, Maplewood Academy; attended, Eaton Academies; carpenter; proprietor, Baldwin’s General Store (1878-1904); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Chadds Ford (1889-1893); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1894, 1896 and 1898; elected, recorder of deeds, Delaware County (1902-1907); engaged in real estate, fire insurance, contracting, and building businesses; reelected to the House in 1910, 1912, 1914 and 1916; elected, Speaker (1917-1918); not a candidate for reelection to the House (1900, 1918); elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1919-1920); died, June 15, 1944 in Elwyn, Delaware County, Pennsylvania; interred, Bradford Cemetery, Marshallton, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
