EVANS, Dwight, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born in the city of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa., May 16, 1954; graduated, Germantown High School, 1971; A.A., Community College of Philadelphia, 1973; B.A., LaSalle College, 1975; graduate studies, Temple University, 1976-1978; urban planner; member, 10th Ward Democratic Executive Committee; leader, 10th Ward Democratic Committee (1983-1996); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1980; reelected to serve 17 more consecutive terms; elected, chair, Majority Appropriations Committee (1990-1994, 2007-2010); elected, chair, Minority Appropriations Committee (1995-2006); appointed, board, Public School Employees’ Retirement System (1991-2010); appointed, Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (2013-2016); unsuccessful campaigns, Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania (1986), Governor of Pennsylvania (1994), and mayor of Philadelphia (1999, 2007); gubernatorial appointee, board, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (2015-present); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2016); elected, United States Congress (2016).
