Born in Washington Township, Snyder County, June 28, 1868, the son of Benjamin and Martha Graybil Apple, Benjamin attended public schools; graduated from Freeburg Academy, 1884; the Bloomsburg Teachers College, 1889; taught at Sunbury High School for 10 years; elected superintendent of Northumberland schools in 1899 (served two terms); owner and publisher of Sunbury Daily Item, 1904-1915; supervisor of the Census of 18th Congressional District, 1910; postmaster of Sunbury, 1910-1914; director and vice president of the Sunbury Trust and Safe Deposit Company; director of the Sunbury Industrial Corporation; and president of the Freeburg State Bank. Benjamin was elected to the state Senate, serving 1929-1932. He died on June 22, 1945.
