William Anders Yeakle was born in Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County to Samuel and Lydia (Anders) Yeakle of Norristown. He attended common schools growing up and pursued an interest in farming. William married his wife Caroline (Hocker) Yeakle on January 17, 1849. He was elected to the school board in 1850, serving as the school board auditor for twenty years, until leaving the school board in 1868. In 1870 William lost a Senate bid to Henry Evans, but was elected in 1873. William was also a member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Society, the state board of Agriculture from 1877-1881, and a frequent member of the Montgomery County Republican nominating conventions.
