Biography

1927 - 2003

Constantine Gus Yatron was born in Mytilene, on the island of Lesbos, Greece to George H and Theano Lazo Yatron. He graduated from Reading High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Kutztown University. After graduating from Kutztown, he was inducted into the Kutztown Athletic Hall of Fame for his impressive collegiate football career. Along with football, Constantine was also a boxer and professional heavyweight. Constantine and his father opened Yatron Ice Cream in Reading before the start of his political career. He served in the House of Representatives from 1956-1960, as well as being a member of the Reading School Board from 1955-1961. He was elected to the Senate in 1960, where he served until 1968. The next year he was elected to the US House of Representatives, serving there until his retirement in 1992. Constantine is best known for his help in Congress, securing a cease-fire during the 1974 Turkish Invasion of Cypress and chairing the House Committee that investigated the Iran-Contra affair.
