LAYER, Walter Francis, a Representative from Delaware County; born, March 22, 1907 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; graduated, Pennsylvania Military Preparatory School, 1928; graduated, Pennsylvania Military College, 1932; second lieutenant, United States Army Reserve; special naval observer, American Embassy, London, United States Marine Corps (1941-1942); Intelligence Officer, United States Marine Corps Staff and Command School, Planning Section (1943-1944); lieutenant colonel, United States Marines (1945, World War II; Bronze Star recipient); commanding officer, United States Marines (1952, Korean War; Legion of Merit recipient); senior advisor, Republic of Korea Marine Corps (Military Order of Ulchi with Gold Star recipient); provost marshal, United States Navy; commanding officer, Marine Corps Barracks, Brooklyn Navy Yard; mathematics instructor, Pennsylvania Military College; supervising foreman, Sun Oil Company; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1947 term; appointed, Joint Legislative Committee on Labor Laws (1947-1948); not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1949 term; vice president, Bordentown Military Institute (1964-1965); died, April 21, 1965 in Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey; interred, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Arlington County, Virginia.
