BELL MEMORIAL HIGHWAY - DESIGNATIONAct of Jul. 5, 2005, P.L. 79, No. 32Cl. 87 AN ACT Designating a portion of State Route 322 in Delaware County as the Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial Highway. The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby enacts as follows: Section 1. Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial Highway.(a) Findings.--The General Assembly hereby finds and declares as follows:(1) Senator Clarence D. Bell (1914-2002) served as a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly longer than any other person in Pennsylvania history. First elected to the House of Representatives in 1954, he then served as State Senator for the 9th district from 1960 until his death in 2002.(2) Along with his many years of service to this Commonwealth, Senator Bell served in the United States military during World War II, where he received the United States Army Legion of Merit and the Pennsylvania Distinguished Service Medal. After the war, he served and attained the rank of Major General in the Pennsylvania National Guard.(3) Senator Bell should be remembered for his distinguished achievements as well as for his devoted service to the residents of Delaware and Chester Counties, to our Commonwealth and to our country.(b) Designation authorized.--The section of State Route 322 beginning at its intersection with U.S. Route 1 and ending at its intersection with Interstate 95 in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester Townships in Delaware County shall be designated and hereafter known as the Senator Clarence D. Bell Memorial Highway.(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall, upon completion of the project, erect appropriate signs at each end of the above-mentioned portion of highway displaying the designation made by this section.Section 2. Effective date.This act shall take effect in 60 days.
