AUTHORIZING SECOND CLASS CITY COUNCILS TO SET SALARIES Act of Dec. 22, 1951, P.L. 1715, No. 456 Cl. 11 AN ACT Authorizing council of cities of the second class to fix the salaries of the mayor and the council members of such cities and to provide for the assessment and retention of fines for absence of councilmen from meetings. The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby enacts as follows: Section 1. The salary of the mayor of cities of the second class of this Commonwealth shall be fixed by the council of said cities, which salary shall not be increased or diminished during the term for which he shall have been elected. Councilmen of cities of the second class of this Commonwealth shall receive for their services during their term of service salaries, payable in semi-monthly installments. Councils shall, by the ordinance fixing such salaries, provide for the assessment and retention therefrom of reasonable fines for absence from regular or special meetings of council or councilmanic committee. Section four of Article XIV of the act, approved the seventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred one (Pamphlet Laws 20), entitled "An act for the government of cities of the second class," and its amendments, is hereby repealed. The act, approved the seventh day of April, one thousand nine hundred twenty-seven (Pamphlet Laws 163), entitled "An act authorizing council of cities of the second class to fix the salary of the mayor of said cities, and providing the maximum amount thereof," is hereby repealed. Section 4. This act shall be applicable to all of the officers named herein who shall begin a term of office on or after the first Monday of January, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-two. |
