Be it enacted, &c., That in all cases of judgments before aldermen, city recorders and justices of the peace in this Commonwealth, where the defendant is a freeholder, or enters bail absolute, with one or more sufficient sureties, in double the amount of the debt or damages, interest and costs recovered, conditioned for the payment thereof, in the event that the defendant fails to pay the same at the expiration of the stay of execution, and the judgment rendered shall be above five dollars and thirty-three cents, and not exceeding twenty dollars, there shall be a stay of three months; and where the judgment shall be above twenty dollars, and not exceeding sixty dollars, there shall be a stay of six months; and where the judgment shall be above sixty dollars, and not exceeding three hundred dollars, there shall be a stay of execution for nine months: Provided, That this act shall not apply to judgments obtained for wages of manual labor. Compiler's Note: Section 28 of Act 207 of 2004 provided that any and all references in any other law to a "district justice" or "justice of the peace" shall be deemed to be references to a magisterial district judge.Section 2. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent herewith be and the are hereby repealed.
