Subject: | Increasing the Vehicle Age of Taxicabs in the City of Philadelphia |
Soon, I will be introducing legislation to increase the allowable vehicle age for taxicabs that operate in Philadelphia.
Currently, the cap for the age of taxicabs in Philadelphia is set at no more than eight years and no more than 350,000 cumulative miles. Meanwhile, the cap for Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) is ten years and no more than 350,000 miles or 12 years if it is an alternative fuel vehicle. In addition, for taxicabs outside the city, regulated by the PUC, a vehicle can be no more than 10 years or 350,000 cumulative mileage or 12 years for alternative fuel vehicles.
My legislation will align the allowable vehicle age for taxicabs in Philadelphia to match that of TNCs and other taxicabs that operate throughout the Commonwealth so that they may continue to operate for up to 10 years and 350,000 miles or 12 years for alternative fuels vehicles.
