Subject: | Keeping Our Communities Safe |
In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation prohibiting certain individuals who pose a public safety risk from being released without bail. Currently, there are no safeguards during the bail process that take into account the amount of fentanyl a person is in possession of, an individual’s record of violent crime or propensity to commit such acts, or an individual’s inclusion on the Terrorism Watch list. This legislation would not allow non-monetary forms of bail to those who are in possession of 10 or more grams of fentanyl, individuals with a prior record of violence, or individuals who are on the Terrorism Watch list. Non-monetary forms would include but not be limited to, release on own recognizance, unsecured bail, or a bail deposit program administered by a county. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
