Subject: | Resolution Honoring Freedom Fighters |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the accomplishments and contributions of freedom fighters. Throughout history, freedom fighters have worked to protect individuals and groups from political repression and discrimination by governments and private organizations. These influential figures have sought to ensure the ability of all members of society to participate in civil and political life. By engaging in resistance movements against oppressive governments, freedom fighters have promoted and implemented political freedom and the expansion of personal civil liberties and rights. Although the term “freedom fighter” is sometimes used to describe those engaged in terrorism or insurrection, this resolution recognizes the bravery and resilience of revolutionists and abolitionists that overcame obstacles to freedom, such as those that led the U.S. civil rights movement and the liberation of Holocaust survivors in Europe. In previous years, I have introduced resolutions intended to honor several freedom fighters, including civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer and labor leader Cesar Chavez. This resolution will expand the honoring of Ms. Hamer and Mr. Chavez to include their fellow freedom fighters, such as:
Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution to honor the freedom fighters that have put their lives on the line to defend the dignity of repressed entities in America and worldwide. |
