Subject: Displaying the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States in Schools
 
In the near future, I will be re-introducing previous session’s SB935, which will require the posting of the preamble to the United States Constitution in the entrance of every educational facility that accepts Commonwealth tax dollars. This bill was previously sponsored by Senator Martin and cosponsored by Senators J. Ward, Gebhard, Mastriano, Scavello, Hutchinson, Regan, Stefano, and Pittman.
 
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
 
This preamble, like the preamble of our State Constitution, begins with “we the people”. This phrase is foundational to our government and demonstrates that the right to govern is granted by the people.
