Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 1, 2023 03:08 PM
From: Senator Cris Dush
To: All Senate members
Subject: Gas Tax Collection Transparency

Soon, I will be re-introducing SB1362, which was cosponsored by Senator Stefano. This legislation will provide transparency in the collection of the gas tax in Pennsylvania.

As we Pennsylvanians are reminded every time we fill up, we pay the highest gas tax in the country at nearly sixty cents a gallon. This drives gas prices up in Pennsylvania and places a heavy tax burden on those of us who live in rural areas where driving is a necessity.

This short piece of legislation simply requires the Department of Revenue to share the information they already obtain about where each gallon of gas is purchased so that the General Assembly can use this information to see who pays the most taxes for transportation and if that money is being spent fairly.

Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation that will provide increased transparency and allow lawmakers to make better, fairer decisions with infrastructure money.

Introduced as SB351
