Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2023 - 2024 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 2, 2022 10:58 AM
From: Senator Lisa M. Boscola
To: All Senate members
Subject: Constitutional Amendment: Anti-Discrimination

In the near future, I intend on re-introducing SB842 of last session, to amend the Pennsylvania Constitution to prohibit discrimination based on:

  • Color
  • Familial Status
  • Religious Creed
  • Ancestry
  • Age
  • Sexual Orientation
  • Sexual Identity
  • Gender Identity or Expression
  • National Origin of the Individual
  • Disability; or
  • Usage of a Service or Support Animal Due to an Individual’s Disability

Pennsylvanian voters overwhelmingly approved the ballot question in 2021 to grant equal rights to individuals regardless of race or ethnicity. We understand the importance of this issue by having the voters of the Commonwealth prohibit discrimination based on race or ethnicity. It is equally important to prohibit discrimination based on the classes listed above. It is our duty as legislators to protect all Pennsylvanians. This legislation aims to do exactly that. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important constitutional amendment.

Previous cosponsors include Senators: HUGHES, COSTA, FONTANA, SCHWANK, COMITTA, KANE, KEARNEY, SANTARSIERO, STREET, YUDICHAK, and COLLETT.

Introduced as SB535
