MEMORANDUM

To: All Senate members
Subject: Stop Price Fixing Act

In the near future, we will be introducing legislation similar to Rep. Nick Pisciottano’s House Bill 2641 to create the Stop Price Fixing Act.

With the price of fuel and goods rising across the globe and here at home, it is clear that Pennsylvanians are facing significant financial burdens. During periods of rapid price increases, it is important that consumers are protected from greedy companies who falsely blame inflation for rising prices but are really reporting record profits.

While supply and demand issues may result in higher prices, wealthy corporations should not be allowed to collude to gouge or artificially raise prices in search of additional profit at the expense of working Pennsylvanians.

The Stop Price Fixing Act will strengthen the Attorney General’s ability to prosecute individuals and businesses that collude to artificially and unfairly raise prices on goods bought or sold in Pennsylvania. Our bill will also provide protections to whistleblowers to encourage individuals with knowledge of price fixing to come forward.

As prices at the gas pump and in the grocery store continue to rise, the General Assembly must take action now to ensure that consumers are protected from greedy companies that inflate profits on the backs of hard working Pennsylvanians.

Please join us in co-sponsoring the Stop Price Fixing Act.

Introduced as SB1343
