Subject: | Ensuring Election Fairness |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to amend the Election Code to prohibit a member of a county board of elections from serving as State Chair of a political party. Our election process prescribes very specific roles for the State Chair of a political party and a member of a county board of elections. These roles are diametrically opposed as each furthers a quantifiable motive. State Chairs further the interests of respective candidates, while members of election boards must ensure all eligible voters have the opportunity to vote. Being the State Chair while serving as a member of a county board of elections is a clear conflict of interest and will cast doubt on the electoral process. This legislation will protect our elections. Please join me in co-sponsoring this common-sense, good government piece of legislation. |
