MEMORANDUM

To: All Senate members
Subject: Nurses Week in Pennsylvania

In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution declaring May 6-12, 2022, as "Nurses Week" in Pennsylvania.

"National Nurses Week" begins May 6 and ends May 12 each year, in conjunction with Florence Nightingale's birthday. This year will mark the 202nd year of celebrating Nurses’ Week.

Each May, the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association partners with health care organizations to promote Nurses Week. It highlights the numerous ways nurses are working to transform health care across the Commonwealth. Our dedicated nursing professionals are working diligently to meet health care needs of our Commonwealth and deserve to be recognized for this commitment. While nursing in general is stressful, COVID-19 has only magnified the pressures and demands of the job. Nurses have worked tirelessly on the front lines during COVID-19 to ensure that people receive the care that they need. It is vital that we use “Nurses Week” to reach out and celebrate the nurses at work in the Commonwealth and thank them for their dedication and commitment to providing excellent patient care.

The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association serves as the professional nursing association in Pennsylvania. With more than 228,000 registered nurses in the Commonwealth, it represents Pennsylvania’s largest segment of health care providers.

Please join us by co-sponsoring this resolution.
