Subject: | Hispanic Heritage Month |
In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution that designates September 15 through October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month (Mes de la Herencia Hispana) in Pennsylvania, in recognition of the many achievements of Hispanic Americans throughout the Commonwealth and in celebration of the rich culture they have added to this country. The U.S. has acknowledged the contributions of Hispanic Americans in our Nation through a federal proclamation since 1988. Nearly one million people who identify as Hispanic or Latinx live in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and they are the largest and fastest growing minority ethnic group in the United States. The Hispanic community has made a profound and positive influence on our Commonwealth through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work and service. They have enhanced and shaped our national character with centuries-old traditions that reflect the multi-ethnic and multi-cultural customs of their community. This resolution encourages all Pennsylvanians to celebrate the diversity and rich culture that make our Commonwealth and nation so extraordinary by proclaiming September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month (Mes de la Herencia Hispana) in Pennsylvania. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
