MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 22, 2021 10:49 AM
From: Senator Gene Yaw
To: All Senate members
Subject: Pledge for Ethical Green Energy

In the near future, I am planning on introducing a resolution that would urge companies in the Commonwealth to take the Pledge for Ethical Green Energy.

This resolution would provide for basic health and human rights standards to be considered when adopting "green" energy options for this Commonwealth. The Commonwealth should certainly embrace and provide a variety of energy options, but should not sacrifice American values by supporting companies that do not ensure that the company's raw materials are acquired through ethical activity and without human rights violations through the entire supply chain, from mining to manufacturing.

Until now, there has been no simple way for consumers or manufacturers in this Commonwealth to know how "green" or environmentally friendly their energy supply really is. By taking the Pledge for Ethical Green Energy, companies are taking the first step in the right direction and are taking charge of their role in protecting the global environment and playing an integral part in creating a more ethical supply chain for this Commonwealth and for the energy sector.

Now is the time to create a brighter future for energy choice in this Commonwealth, and the individuals affected around the world by our energy choices.

I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
