Subject: Allowing the Delivery of Wine
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to allow Restaurant liquor licensees to deliver wine to Pennsylvanians.
Currently, malt and brewed beverages are the only alcoholic beverages able to be delivered to consumers from liquor licenses.  My legislation would authorize restaurant licensees that hold a wine expanded permit to utilize a transporter for hire to deliver wine the same way malt and brewed beverages are able to be delivered.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the hospitality industry employed nearly 600,000 Pennsylvanians in 2019.  By December of 2020, that number had dropped to just 411,000 employed.  The damage done to this industry over the past year has been disastrous.
As Pennsylvania continues to recover from the economic toll of COVID-19, it is essential that we assist our local businesses by providing new revenue streams.  Offering relief on the other side of the ledger was necessary to avoid immediate closures, but now we need to shift our focus to allowing these businesses do what they do best; safely serve their customers.
In an effort to prevent further establishments from being forced to make the decision to permanently close their doors, I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.  If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Jake Gery in my office at jgery@pasen.gov.
