Subject: | Legislative Budget and Finance Committee Review of Redundant Programs |
As we begin reexamining the commonwealth’s budget, I plan to introduce legislation which would direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) to review Commonwealth Agency Programs. The committee would set up a schedule for reviewing the programs of each state agency. The review by LBFC would focus on several factors including whether a program is redundant within the respective agency or within a different/another state agency. After completing the review, the committee is required to provide recommendations for the program moving forward and include estimated cost savings and legislative changes associated with the recommendations. These recommendations are to be sent to the governor and the general assembly. By having LBFC review agency programs, we can work on improving government efficiency by reducing waste within government programs and save taxpayer money. Please join me and co-sponsor this legislation. |
