Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2021 - 2022 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 9, 2020 02:58 PM
From: Senator Christine M. Tartaglione
To: All Senate members
Subject: Lost and Stolen Gun Reporting

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation, formerly SB 483 in the 2019-20 session, that would require lost or stolen firearms be reported to local law enforcement authorities within 24 hours.

A number of mass shootings and countless cases of gun violence happening across the country has raised awareness of loopholes in gun laws. Illegal firearms proliferation, and violent crime associated with it continues to plague residents across the United States as demonstrated by the scores of deaths ranging from police officers and innocent bystanders to the victims of domestic abuse.

Requiring lost or stolen firearms be reported to local law enforcement authorities would help to limit the availability of illegally obtained weapons and ultimately make our communities safer.

Last session, this bill was co-sponsored by Senators Farnese, Schwank, Santarsiero, Leach, Hughes, Dinniman, Costa, Sabatina, Street, Haywood and Kearney.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation to help ensure public safety and get illegally obtained guns off the street.

Introduced as SB217
