Subject: Recognizing the week of October 4th through 10th, 2020, as "National Newspaper Week" in Pennsylvania
 
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the week of October 4th through 10th, 2020, as “National Newspaper Week” in Pennsylvania.
 
A free press is crucial to a responsible and accountable government.  Our founding fathers recognized this fact when they enshrined the right to a free press in the First Amendment.  It is with great pride that we celebrate the free press generations later. 
 
While news and media have changed drastically with time, newspapers have survived.  They have kept our communities informed for generations, and they should be recognized for that service.
 
I ask that you join me in honoring the service that newspapers have offered.  If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Jake Gery in my office at jgery@pasen.gov.
