Subject: | Honoring the 50th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to honor the 50th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Environmental Council. In 1969, a group of Pennsylvanians resolved to bring conservationists, community leaders, business and agriculture interests, local governments, and private citizens together to work with state government to restore and enhance the Commonwealth’s environment and quality of life. In January 1970, before the first Earth Day and adoption of Pennsylvania’s Environmental Rights Amendment, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council was incorporated. The Pennsylvania Environmental Council has been central to the development and passage of landmark legislation in Pennsylvania, including the Land Recycling Program, Growing Greener, and the Climate Change Act. Today the Pennsylvania Environmental Council continues their important work to protect and restore the natural and built environments through innovation, collaboration, education and advocacy. I hope you will join me in honoring their work and celebrating their 50th anniversary. |
