Subject: County Health Department Authority during COVID-19
 
I will soon introduce legislation that will allow those counties and municipalities with local health departments the option of enforcement of public health concerns in long-term nursing homes.    
 
A large percentage of COVID-19 cases in our region are located in nursing homes and senior care facilities.  Based on what we are seeing  in these facilities, along with feedback from county health officials, it is clear that in many cases,  county health departments are in the best position to identify and often meet local needs in these facilities.   
 
I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation to support our local health officials.
