Subject: | COVID-19 Crisis Grant Program for Non-Profit Organizations |
As we continue to see the current public health emergency unfold with COVID-19, it has become evident that our non-profit organizations will need additional financial assistance. These non-profit, charitable and community organizations, such as Goodwill Industries, United Way, YMCA, Food Banks, and so many others are doing so much for so many in communities throughout our Commonwealth; while at the same time, are faced with a significant financial toll on their operations. These organizations work with our most vulnerable populations. The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides over $2 trillion of economic stimulus and contains several items that benefit the nonprofit sector. There are significant appropriations provided to benefit non-profit subsectors, such as hospitals, education, the arts, and transit systems. My legislation would allocate a grant program specifically for these non-profit organizations based in the Commonwealth; and would be funded by monies allocated through the federal CARES Act. I am hopeful that this legislation would help benefit these organizations; so that they can continue with their good work in all of our communities. The programs and services will be greatly needed in our recovery. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
