Subject: | Resolution Recognizing "Conservation District Week" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, we intend to introduce a Senate Resolution designating May 3 through May 9, 2020 as “Conservation District Week” in Pennsylvania. In 1945, Pennsylvania state legislators recognized the need to support grass-roots conservation efforts. As a result, the Conservation District Law was passed, and county conservation districts were created. Today there is a conservation district established in every Pennsylvania county except Philadelphia. Conservation districts implement a variety of programs, and provide assistance for a range of issues unique to their county, such as agricultural land preservation, the Chesapeake Bay Program, environmental education and wildlife management, just to name a few. Districts also work with many partners including government agencies, private organizations, businesses, and others to accomplish their mission of supporting and helping landowners to conserve natural resources. They have made immeasurable contributions to our state through its programs, which are designed to enhance the quality of life for all. We hope you will join us in supporting this Senate Resolution designating May 3 through May 9, 2020 as “Conservation District Week” in Pennsylvania. |
