Subject: | Designating April 2020 as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating April 2020 as Sarcoidosis Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Sarcoidosis is a systemic, inflammatory disease that can affect almost any organ in the body with no known cause, cure or reliable treatments to slow or halt the progression of chronic cases. Sarcoidosis affects 200,000 people across the United States. The signs and symptoms vary widely depending on the person and organs affected. Symptoms can include debilitating fatigue; shortness of breath; difficulties with balance and coordination; irregular heartbeat; vision problems, including blindness; pain affecting joints and muscles; weakness or numbness of limbs; skin rash; mood disorders; organ failure; and sleep difficulties. I hope you will join with me in sponsoring this resolution as we salute those who demonstrate great courage and determination in the efforts to cope with the disease and as we recognize the volunteers, researchers, caregivers, and medical professionals who are working to improve the quality of life and prognosis of people living with Sarcoidosis. |
