Subject: | Resolution Designating March 2020 as Save Your Vision Month |
I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing March 2020 as "Save Your Vision Month" in Pennsylvania. I encourage you to join me as a co-sponsor. According to the American Optometric Association, an estimated 142 million Americans over 40 years of age experience vision problems. Of that total, between 8.2 million and 15.9 million people have a correctable refractive error, and despite the growing information and awareness about eye health, many Pennsylvanians fail to schedule regular eye exams. It is imperative that we take the time to foster greater discussion about poor ocular health in the Commonwealth as well as highlight the medical services available in our local communities. Professional eye care provided by licensed practitioners is available and should be utilized by Pennsylvanians. By designating March 2020 as "Save Your Vision Month" in Pennsylvania, we can promote and encourage the ocular health of our state's residents, and ensure that the gift of sight for those fortunate to have it can enjoy it for years to come. |
