Subject: | Hunting and Fishing License Bans |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation which would ban individuals whom are convicted of certain animal cruelty offense under the Pennsylvania Crimes Code from having a valid hunting or fishing license in Pennsylvania. Hunting and Fishing are privileges in Pennsylvania. Recently, there was a disturbing incident involving cruelty to a deer. The conduct was reprehensible and as lawmakers we must send a strong message that such conduct will have consequences to your hunting and fishing privileges in Pennsylvania. While the crimes code contains provisions allowing for the prosecution of individuals who harm animals, and the respective game and fish codes also contain provisions to permit discretion of licensing to the Game Commission and Boat & Fish Commission, I believe we need to send a message to violators that the abuse of an animal should not only carry criminal charges but should also mean a loss of hunting and fishing privileges. With that in mind, I intend to introduce a bill which would give an automatic ban for a hunting license or fishing license to people convicted of certain animal abuses. Please join me in supporting this initiative. |
