Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2019 - 2020 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 15, 2019 04:15 PM
From: Senator Scott Martin and Sen. Jake Corman
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing The Pennsylvania State University Wrestling Team

In the near future, Senator Corman and I will be introducing a resolution to congratulate the Pennsylvania State University wrestling team on its eighth NCAA Division I National Wrestling Team Championship in the past nine years, and ninth Championship overall.

This fourth consecutive national title for the team marks the eighth team championship for head coach Cael Sanderson, who has coached 23 individual champions, some being repeat champions.

In addition, three of the Penn State Wrestlers, Jason Nolf, Bo Nickal and Anthony Cassar won individual NCAA titles in their respective weight classes. In doing so, Nolf and Nickal became the third and fourth three-time champions in Penn State’s history. Penn State Wrestlers Vincenzo Joseph and Mark Hall placed second in their respective weight classes in the NCAA tournament. Each of these wrestlers earned the distinction of All-American for the year and were amongst seven total All-Americans on the PSU roster.

Several other awards were attributed to these wrestlers both individually and as a team including the 2019 Big Ten Team Championship and the Dan Hodge Trophy which was awarded to Bo Nickal.

The team also exemplified strong academic excellence with team being awarded its fifth consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Award for exemplifying outstanding scores in this past year’s Academic Progress Rate compilation.

Please join me in congratulating these young men on their outstanding efforts both on the mat and in the classroom.
