MEMORANDUM

Posted: August 29, 2019 03:54 PM
From: Senator Christine M. Tartaglione
To: All Senate members
Subject: National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of September 2019 as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.

Each year, this resolution brings awareness that offers an opportunity for individuals to learn about spinal cord injuries, recognize the daily challenges encountered by injured persons and acknowledge the achievements of those Americans living with a spinal cord injury.

Every 48 minutes, someone in the U.S. is paralyzed as a result of a spinal cord injury. Today, more than 300,000 Americans, 40,000 of which are veterans, suffer from spine-related injuries. An additional twelve thousand such injuries occur annually.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs, through its efforts to aid those living with a spinal cord injury and support the advancement of spinal cord injury research, is a leading advocate for this awareness month.

In recognition of all those affected by and working to address spinal cord-related injuries, I hope you will join me in recognizing September 2019 as National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month.
