Subject: | Commemorating Fallingwater on being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution congratulating Fallingwater and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy on Fallingwater being named a World Heritage Site. Designed in 1935 by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a private residence, Fallingwater is now owned by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Fallingwater is located in Fayette County and draws over 150,000 visitors yearly to Fayette County. Over the years, Fallingwater has garnered numerous acclamations including having been designated a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure and a National Historic Landmark. Most recently, Fallingwater was named a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on July 7th, 2019. Fallingwater was included among 8 buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 20th Century Architecture. The United States now claims 24 United States inscriptions on the World Heritage List. Pennsylvania now boasts having two of those spots as Fallingwater joins alongside Independence Hall in Philadelphia. I ask that you join me in honoring this accolade, and commemorate Fallingwater on joining the prestigious list of World Heritage Sites. If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact Jake Gery in my office at jgery@pasen.gov. |
