The Sentencing Commission is required by law to publish in the Pennsylvania Bulletin all proposed sentencing guidelines, resentencing guidelines, parole guidelines, risk assessment instrument, and recommitment ranges and hold public hearings in the next 30-60 days to permit testimony from a specific range of organizations which currently include: - Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association
- Chiefs of Police Association
- Fraternal Order of Police
- Public Defenders Organization
- Law school faculty members
- State Board of Probation and Parole
- Department of Corrections
- Pennsylvania Bar Association
- Pennsylvania Wardens Association
- Pennsylvania Association on Probation, Parole, and Corrections
- Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges
This legislation proposes to add two organizations who are afforded the right to testify on these proposed changes, the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Office of the Victim Advocate. Each of these organizations have an interest in the sentencing ranges and deserve the opportunity to be heard by the Commission. |
