Subject: | PA Farm Bill: Urban Agriculture Infrastructure Grant Program |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that is part of Governor Tom Wolf’s proposed PA Farm Bill. The intent of this legislation is to assist the agriculture community by increasing market opportunity. This bill aims to establish a reimbursement grant under which an individual who implements a project to improve agriculture infrastructure in urban areas that focuses on aggregation of agricultural products, sharing resources and supporting community development resources may be reimbursed some portion of the cost of the project. Any Pennsylvanian is eligible to apply for this reimbursement grant with the Department of Agriculture, but there will be limitation on the amount that can be reimbursed, as well as limitation on how the money can be spent. Grant reimbursement funds will be limited to 50 percent or less of the cost of an eligible project and funds may not be used to pay wages or salaries of grant recipient staff, along with other requirements outlined in the bill. Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation to support agricultural projects in urban areas which will have a positive impact on urban residents and strengthen the agriculture industry across the commonwealth.
