Subject: | Designating "Physician Anesthesiologist Week" |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the week of January 27 to February 2, 2019 as “Physician Anesthesiologist Week.” Anesthesiologists are physicians who specialize in developing anesthetic plans and administering anesthetics. They often undergo at least twelve years of higher education and training, including undergraduate school, medical school, a one-year internship, and a three-year residency program. They complete all courses relevant to the practice of medicine and are prepared to diagnose patients and manage surgical complications during emergency situations. Prior to practicing independently, they accumulate between 12,000 and 16,000 hours of clinical patient care. Anesthesiologists are a critical part of a patient’s surgical team. They evaluate a patient’s health before a procedure, administer anesthesia, monitor the patient during surgery, and assess the patient’s status after the procedure. Nearly two million procedures are performed with anesthesiologists in Pennsylvania’s hospitals every year. The Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists is dedicated to promoting the highest standards of anesthesiology and serving as an advocate for anesthesiologists and their patients. Please support this legislation and help recognize the work of Pennsylvania’s physician anesthesiologists. |
