MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2019 03:37 PM
From: Senator Scott Martin
To: All Senate members
Subject: International Childhood Cancer Day in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating February 15, 2019 as International Childhood Cancer Day in Pennsylvania.

While I intend to continue our tradition of recognizing September as Pediatric Cancer Awareness month, I am joining stakeholders in their ongoing efforts to bring attention to the plight of childhood cancer.

Despite the survival rate for pediatric cancer improving over the past few decades, the rate of children being diagnosed has increased and still remains the leading cause of death from disease among children. By continuing to promote awareness, we as a legislature can remind children and their families that we are standing with them in their fight. This resolution is another opportunity to encourage the public to help support these families as well as emphasize innovation in research and treatment so that one day we can finally beat cancer.

I ask my colleagues to keep up the fight against pediatric cancer by co-sponsoring this important resolution.
