Subject: | Cervical Cancer Awareness Month |
January is recognized across the nation as Cervical Cancer Awareness month, to increase public understanding and awareness of this disease that afflicts more than 900,000 American women every year, claiming the lives of thousands. Once a leading cause of death for women, today it has a very high cure rate when it is detected early. The Human Papiloma Virus (HPV), a leading cause of the disease, is carried by an estimated 20 million American women and can be prevented by vaccination, while the cancer and pre-cancerous conditions can be detected by regular physical examinations with Pap smears. I hope you will join in this resolution declaring January as "Cervical Cancer Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. |
