To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Mission

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing mission. Our national effort to send a man to the moon and return him safely to earth inspired a generation of Americans to dream big, stretch the bounds of our collective knowledge, and then make that dream a reality. Continuing to celebrate this great accomplishment should forever inspire future generations of our nation and Commonwealth.

On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Col. Neil Armstrong, USAF, and LTJG Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, USN, became the first men to land on the moon. Neil Armstrong became the first person to walk on the moon, stating the forever famous words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."

Within eight years of President John F. Kennedy’s speech to accept this challenge of landing a man on the moon, America did in fact mesmerize the world with the success of Apollo 11. 50 years later, the Apollo 11 mission continues to inform our lives by inspiring new advancements in technology and science.

Tremendous cooperation and collective determination put a man on the moon in less than 10 years. We realized something greater than the sum of our parts, something as inspiring today as it was 50 years ago.

I hope you join me in support of this resolution.
