Subject: | Designating October 17, 2018 as “Libraries Move PA Forward Day” |
In the near future, Senator Dinniman and I will be introducing a resolution to designate October 17, 2018 as “Libraries Move PA Forward Day” to acknowledge the immeasurable contributions made by libraries and library workers throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania libraries provide resources, staff, and expertise that uplift the communities that they serve. Professional librarians connect patrons with programs, research, and materials with equal access and accessibility regardless of one’s financial status. In addition, professional librarians are specially educated with graduate degrees to encourage information literacy, research, and knowledge acquisition. Librarians support all ages from toddlers, early learners, school age youth, teens, young adults, families, to senior citizens with appropriate expertise and targeted resources. Librarians recognize that literacy and knowledge are essential to success, and libraries encourage not only basic literacy, but also information, civic and social, financial, and health literacy through the PA Forward initiative and Star Library framework. Libraries and library staff in public, special, school, and academic libraries across Pennsylvania contribute and enhance the success of our residents. Please join us in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
