Subject: | Theft of Weapons of Mass Destruction |
Recently, a theft of over 600 pounds of dynamite from a work site occurred in Lancaster County. After this very unsettling event, I made the discovery that our current laws do not address theft of weapons of mass destruction. I intend to introduce legislation to address this lack of grading for such a theft, which could ultimately result in a very disastrous event for our Commonwealth. Specifically, my proposal would make the theft of weapons of mass destruction a felony of the first degree. The same would be the case for receiving stolen property when the property is a weapon of mass destruction, which is the current grading for receiving a stolen firearm. Additionally, my proposal amends the definition of “weapon of mass destruction” to be in line with the Federal definition. Please join me in sponsoring this very important legislation. This is a time in our society where we have people that want to do harm to others, and we must not take such actions lightly. |
