Subject: | Line-of-Duty Death Benefits for Teachers |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would extend line-of-duty death benefits to teachers that are killed in the line of duty. The recent tragedies in schools throughout our nation have exemplified the fact that teachers are going above and beyond to ensure students’ safety. Numerous teachers and school employees have lost their lives in the line of duty to protect our children. The surviving family members of heroic teachers should be provided the same assistance and compensation afforded under Act 51 (Killed-In-Service Benefit) and Act 101 (Emergency Responder and Law Enforcement Death Benefit). My legislation would amend the Public School code to allow for these grieving families to receive the same financial benefits as others who have given their lives in the line of duty. I hope you will consider co-sponsoring this important legislation. |
