Subject: Open Medical Staff
 
I plan to introduce legislation that amends the Health Care Facilities Act to ensure that physicians have access to medical staff membership and can continue to provide appropriate care for their patients.

The exclusive contracting by non-profit hospitals and hospital networks is a critical health care issue in the Commonwealth. Physicians, whom are fully licensed and credentialed by the state, should not be denied the right to join a medical staff. Additionally, medical staffs should not be closed to independent physicians. This change to the law will address this problem, and allow patients to utilize physicians without affiliations.
