Subject: | Municipalities With Cemeteries |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that exempts municipalities from certain provisions of Title 9 (Burial Grounds). An issue was recently brought to my attention whereby a local municipality inherited a cemetery. Subsequently they learned that according to the Burial Grounds Act, the municipality would be considered a “cemetery company” and have to comply with certain regulations including the setting aside of $50,000 as a permanent care lot fund. Currently religious organizations are exempt from this provision. My legislation would provide municipalities with the same exemptions as religious organizations under the Act. I invite you to join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
