Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 26, 2018 03:46 PM
From: Senator Scott Wagner
To: All Senate members
Subject: Establishing zero tolerance policy for murder occurring on school grounds

The recent tragedy in Parkland, FL showed the flaws in our system in protecting our future generation while at school. Blame continues to be passed around as to who was responsible for the killing of 17 innocent lives. There is one person to blame and that is Nikolas Cruz.

If the tragedy occurred in the Commonwealth, Mr. Cruz would not face the death penalty thanks to Governor Wolf’s moratorium.

In the near future, I will introduce legislation that will automatically require the death penalty sentence for any individual found guilty of committing murder while on school property as well as any accomplices. School property shall include all public schools, private schools, technical schools, higher education institutions and any recognized educational entity in Pennsylvania.

It is time we stand up for the innocent children, teachers and administrators who go to school each and every day. My legislation will ensure we have an absolute zero tolerance policy for murderers and their accessories in our schools in Pennsylvania.

There is no room for violence in the classroom and no room in our society for the evil individuals who carry out horrific crimes against innocent students, teachers and administrators.

Please join me in taking a firm stand against violence in our schools.
