Subject: | Clawback provision for state grants |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation that will require all state contracts to contain a clawback provision for any future grants issued by the state. In light of the bonuses given to several political operatives and event organizers at the conclusion of the Democratic National Committee Convention in Philadelphia last year, the state should make several reforms to the way it provides grants in the future. Specifically, my legislation will require that the state be the payer of last resort, that any surplus grant funds be returned to the state, and that private funds resulting in a surplus for any specific project will be used to repay the state grant funds. The bottom line is if an entity can afford to pay large bonuses, the state should be able recoup the taxpayer dollars used to subsidize that project or event. My legislation will ensure the integrity of tax dollars to prevent a similar problem from occurring in the future. |
